My Sitcom Dream Come True: A Behind-the-Scenes Experience with Bentley Kyle Evans

Hey!! First off, I know, t’s been quite some time since I’ve shared updates on my creative journey with everyone. To be honest, a lot has happened in my personal life (both good and bad) that pushed me to shift my focus away from my creative endeavors, though never completely. I’ve always kept my eye on the prize.

The interesting part? Those life experiences have actually strengthened my storytelling muscle. Now I have real moments to pull from: the good, the not-so-good, the bad, and even the downright horrible. They’ve all come full circle. Even more ironic, the pivots I’ve made have helped me grow in other areas, especially in business and leadership.

I’ll update you on everything eventually, but for now, let’s get to the good stuff…

From the moment I arrived and saw a parking space labeled with my name and character’s name, I knew it was going to be special. I participated in a full table read with the director and other actors, went through wardrobe, hair, and makeup, and eventually shot a full episode on a real sitcom set.

The inner child in me was screaming.

It was an unforgettable experience—one that reminded me why I love storytelling and acting so much. And as I shift back into documenting my journey, I wanted to share this milestone with all of you.

Bentley Kyle Evans is a legendary showrunner, writer, and producer responsible for some of the most iconic sitcoms of all time, including Martin and The Jamie Foxx Show. As a creative, I’ve crafted a wishlist of directors and producers I dream of collaborating with and yes, Bentley is right at the top.

I grew up during an era before streaming and YouTube. Back when you had to be in front of the TV at 8:00 p.m. sharp or you’d miss your show. I watched every classic '90s and early 2000s sitcom: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Wayans Bros., My Wife and Kids, The Cosby Show, Family Matters, and so many more. If you watched these shows too, I’m pretty sure we’d get along just fine.

What I love about these sitcoms is the writing: the comedy, the timing, the storytelling though it's the actors who bring it all to life. They make us laugh until our stomachs hurt. That’s why I’ve always dreamed of being on a sitcom myself.

And by the grace of God, that dream just came true.
